The driver, Álvaro Fontes was born in Tenerife although he has lived in Málaga for more than half of his life. He studied, got married, had children and mainly his sporting career began on the Costa del Sol, which is why he considers himself a Málaga native, at least by adoption.

He has always liked sports and has practiced them throughout his life, but without a doubt, his favourite sport is motor racing as it mixes adrenaline with leadership and concentration with speed. Álvaro had the opportunity to try a racing car in October 2003 and since then he hasn’t stopped, so far, he has 338 races, 116 podiums and 42 victories, of which he won 3 Spanish Championships.

In an exclusive interview with Sports & Lifestyle he told us “when I started I was so inexperienced and it’s true that inside a racing car you get scared, the less experience you have, because like everything in life, everything new causes you tension, although you really like speed you have to have a technique that I didn’t know and have some talent, but everything that happens around you is new and that makes you nervous, and it’s true that now older I have much more experience but I also have more awareness of the danger.”

In more than 300 races, Fontes has had some accidents, however, the cars are designed and offer maximum safety to the drivers, as they have a safety box with bars inside the car, seat belts, helmet, HANS, and even the circuits themselves are prepared with loopholes and impact zones where nothing serious usually happens, “you wreck the car but it’s true that nothing happens to you,” explained the driver.

During his career, he has participated in some important endurance competitions which, as he explained, the four drivers, the mechanics and the engineers must think as a team, because if one of them doesn’t do it, they can’t win. This is a very complicated test because the car is running for 24 hours, so no driver can be individualistic, because if one driving at risky, the other drivers may find the car very damaged.
